Unseasonably high temperatures as fall festivities begin at Thies Farms

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:15:15 GMT

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – While the weather may say something different, it’s October, and that means pumpkin season. With these temperatures near 90, it’s a little hard to get into the spirit of Halloween. But with those two cold fronts on the way later this week, we’ll be experiencing that fall feeling just around the corner. And fall is already in progress here at Thies Farms.Dave Thies, owner of Thies Farm and Greenhouses, says they’ve had a good growing year. Yes, it’s been dry, but they can water easily. And the weather is, as usual, up and down, but overall, they’ve had a successful harvest.“The pumpkins that we have that we’re growing here look excellent,” Thies said. “In fact, the vines are so green and luscious you can’t see the fruit. But there’s quite a few pumpkins in there.” Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Breaking News ...

Some major brands are giving up on Threads as engagement craters

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:15:15 GMT

Hello. Is there anybody in there? While Pink Floyd could not have envisioned the internet, let alone social media, when they released Comfortably Numb in 1979, the lyrics might as well apply to Meta's wannabe "Twitter Killer," Threads. After quickly amassing over 100 million users during its initial launch in early July, engagement has bottomed out.Very little has been reported on this topic lately, however, the most recent data from Sensor Tower showed an 82% drop in Threads’ active daily users with only eight million accessing the app at the end of July. This is not to say many major brands and celebrities aren’t still sharing content on Threads. You don’t want to fall behind if or when Meta finally gets it right.Today, however, is painfully clear that posting to Threads is more of an exercise and a hope than a realistic expectation of engagement. For example, the Los Angeles Dodgers have 2.5 million followers on X, formerly Twitter, and 269K on Threads. This amusing tweet showing the...

Read more Letters to the Editor.Remembering Feinsteinfor her graciousnessRe: “California trailblazer was ‘a political giant’” (Page A1, Sept. 30).I will miss Sen. Dianne Feinstein. She was nice enough to extend me, a freshman Republican member of Congress, courtesies. As San Francisco mayor she invited me in 1987 to represent the California congressional delegation to officially greet Pope John Paul II on his visit to San Francisco. My wife treasures the picture of her shaking hands with the pope. In the Senate office building the senator personally invited me to join her in the Senate private elevator to go to her office on a higher floor. She was even sweet enough to invite my wife and me to dinner with her and her husband although we did not take advantage of that opportunity. She overlooked the ideological divide between us and reached out to us to join her in leading America. Senator, thank you for your serv...

By Achmad Ibrahim and Niniek Karmini | Associated PressJAKARTA, Indonesia — Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurated Southeast Asia’s first high-speed railway on Monday as it was set to begin commercial operations, a key project under China’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative that will drastically reduce the travel time between two key cities. The project has been beset with delays and increasing costs, and some observers doubt its commercial benefits. But Widodo has championed the 142-kilometer (88-mile) railway, which was issued its official operating license from the Transportation Ministry on Sunday. The $7.3 billion project, largely funded by China, was constructed by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China, known as PT KCIC, a joint venture between an Indonesian consortium of four state-owned companies and China Railway International Co.
