Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge acquire Golden Globes A giant upheaval in the awards space. The Golden Globes, the ceremony that kicks off awards season, is getting an overhaul. This also means the shutting down of one major organization. "Dick Clark Productions (DCP) and Eldridge have acquired all the Golden Globes’ assets, rights, and properties from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA)," a press release of the acquisition read. "The transaction will result in the winddown of the HFPA and its membership."The move comes as the HFPA has dealt with some issues. Over the years, the organization has been slammed over its lack of diversity. Phillip Berk, the HFPA's former president has been accused of assaulting Brendan Fraser years ago. Now Dick Clark Productions and its partners will now "plan, host and produce" the annual awards show. "So what is really happening here is quite the monopoly," explained KTLA 5's Sam Rubin. "Penske Media owns all the trades like Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline. They are also partners wit...

Transgender activist wants a new trial in Oakland triple murder: It all comes down to biker gangs, judicial rulings, and a haircut OAKLAND — Days before a judge is expected to hand down a life sentence, the attorney for well-known transgender activist Dana Rivers has filed a new trial motion arguing that unfavorable judicial rulings, prosecutorial missteps, and a fixation on the Hells Angels denied Rivers a fair trial in her triple-murder case.Defense attorney Melissa Adams, who defended Rivers during her 2022 trial, argued in a 36-page motion that Rivers’ trial focused too much on biker gangs and not enough on evidence of strife in the marriage of two of Rivers’ three victims. Rivers was convicted of murdering Charlotte Reed, 56, her wife Patricia Wright, 57, and Wright’s 19-year-old son, Benny Toto Diambu-Wright, in a frenzied triple-shooting and stabbing that prosecutors described as gruesome overkill motivated by personal animus and a dispute involving an all-women motorcycle club known as the Deviants.“The court erred in allowing the prosecution to present evidence that the Deviants...

US will rejoin UNESCO to counter China’s influence By Angela Charlton and Matthew Lee | Associated PressPARIS — UNESCO announced Monday that the United States plans to rejoin the U.N. cultural and scientific agency — and pay more than $600 million in back dues — after a decade-long dispute sparked by the organization’s move to include Palestine as a member.U.S. officials say the decision to return was motivated by concern that China is filling the gap left by the U.S. in UNESCO policymaking, notably in setting standards for artificial intelligence and technology education around the world. The move will face a vote by UNESCO’s member states in the coming weeks. But approval seems a formality after the resounding applause that greeted the announcement in UNESCO’s Paris headquarters Monday. Not a single country raised an objection to the return of a country that was once the agency’s single biggest funder. The U.S. and Israel stopped financing UNESCO after it voted to include Palestine as a member state in 2011. ...
