Looking at both offside calls that cost Wild in loss to Bruins

It’s not so much that the Wild were making excuses for themselves after a 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday afternoon at Xcel Energy Center. They were simply being realistic. The fact is, had a couple of officials’ calls gone the other way, the whole game might have been different. It started with Matt Dumba scoring a goal early in the game that would have put the Wild up 2-0 only to have the officials rule that Connor Dewar had been offside. It continued with Matt Boldy scoring a goal midway through the game that would have tied the score 2-2 only to have the officials rule that he himself was offside.“They were both offsides,” coach Dean Evason said. “There’s nothing to complain about.”As much as that might be true, the Wild were clearly frustrated with how things played out.“It’s the way it goes sometimes,” Marcus Johansson said. “The first one I think was obvious when we looked at it. The second one was really close, so...Bruins snap Wild’s franchise-best point streak with 5-2 win

On paper, the Wild were always going to struggle in this particular game against the Boston Bruins. In a matchup with the NHL’s best team, the Wild were without their best player (Kirill Kaprizov), arguably their best defenseman (Jonas Brodin), a top pair defenseman (Jake Middleton), their alternate captain (Marcus Foligno), and a gritty glue guy (Brandon Duhaime). In the end, that proved too much to overcome as the Wild suffered a 5-2 loss to the Bruins on Saturday afternoon at Xcel Energy Center. That snapped their franchise-best point streak at 14 games. No doubt the most frustrating part of the game was that the Wild probably felt they deserved a better fate. Not only did they battle tooth and nail for 60 minutes, they had a pair of goals wiped off the board on offside calls. That overshadowed an otherwise impressive effort given the circumstances.“Obviously, they’ve been the best team in the league the whole season,” Marcus Johansson said. “We proved ...Rapids Notebook: Darren Yapi, Diego Rubio called up for international duty; Keegan Rosenberry stresses organization ahead of Loons game

STANFORD — When Stanford is at full strength, it’s hard to find any team in the country that’s as tall and long as the Cardinal. But it sure would help to have their All-American post player ready for what should be a tough battle for rebounds on Sunday.Thankfully for the No. 1 seed Cardinal, Cameron Brink was able to practice on Saturday after she missed Friday’s game with a non-COVID related illness.Brink, who posted on Instagram that she had an IV put in her arm, said she’s ready for Sunday’s 6:30 p.m. second round NCAA Tournament game against the No. 8 seed Ole Miss.“It was just a stomach bug, and just dealing with that,” Brink said. “As long as I’m ready to play tomorrow, that’s all that matters.”Stanford was able to do just fine without Brink in its first round game, blasting No. 16 seed Sacred Heart. But coach Tara VanDerveer admitted that “it is really different not having Cam out there” afterwards and would welcome her return to the lineup.“We need Cam,” VanDerveer said. “We...San Jose State blows out Southern Indiana in CBI opener

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday announced the selection of Utah-based generic drug manufacturer Civica to produce low-cost insulin for California, an unprecedented move that makes good on his promise to put state government in direct competition with the brand-name drug companies that dominate the market.“People should not be forced to go into debt to get lifesaving prescriptions,” Newsom said. “Californians will have access to some of the most inexpensive insulin available, helping them save thousands of dollars each year.”The contract, with an initial cost of $50 million that Newsom and his fellow Democratic lawmakers approved last year, calls for Civica to manufacture state-branded insulin and make the lifesaving drug available to any Californian who needs it, regardless of insurance coverage, by mail order and at local pharmacies. But insulin is just the beginning. Newsom said the state will also look to produce the opioid overdose reversal drug naloxone.Allan Coukell...KU point guard Harris starts 2nd half after spraining ankle
