NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is holding a bit steadier Thursday, and stocks are mixed following their sharp two-day slide. The S&P 500 was up 0.1% in morning trading, trimming its slump for August. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 97 points, or 0.3%, at 34,863, as of 10:30 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.3% lower.Cisco Systems helped lead the way and rose 4.8%. It reported stronger profit and revenue for the latest quarter than analysts expected.Walmart did as well, while also raising its forecast for full-year results. But its stock swung from an early gain to a loss of 1%. Stocks broadly have been retreating in August following a torrid first seven months of the year. That’s in part because a swift rise in bond yields is forcing a reassessment of how much to pay for stocks. The 10-year Treasury, which is the centerpiece of the bond market, is now yielding 4.30% after touching its highest level since October earlier in the morning. If it reaches 4.34%, it ...Airlines are adding new routes and making a bold bet on continued strong demand for travel

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Rocky Mountains are home to some of the most beautiful sights in Colorado. People hike every day, year-round. But some don't come out. One of the Rockies' biggest mysteries is the unsolved disappearance in the case of James Pruitt. He set off for a day hike, but three days later, only his car was found. Unsolved: The suspicious death of Bobby Bizup On Feb. 28, 2019, Pruitt set off for a hike in the Rockies. He parked in the Glacier Gorge parking lot, grabbed his Nikon Coolpix 900 camera, reddish orange beanie and set off for the day around 10 a.m., according to the National Park Service Cold Cases. On March 3, U.S. Park Rangers found his vehicle, but there were no signs of Pruitt. The rangers contacted his family who said they hadn't seen or heard from him for three days. Worst of all, Pruitt had no intentions of staying over, his family said. This was only supposed to be a day hike. By the time the National Park Service started the search, it had been three d...Purported names, photos and addresses of Fulton County grand jurors circulate on far-right internet

(CNN) — Names, photographs, social media profiles and even the home addresses purportedly belonging to members of the Fulton County grand jury that this week voted to indict former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants are circulating on social media – with experts saying that some anonymous users are calling for violence against them.CNN cannot independently verify if the photographs, social media accounts and the homes addresses being posted actually belong to the grand jurors. However, the names being circulated on these sites appear to match the names of at least 13 of the 26 grand jurors that served on the panel in Fulton County. It’s unclear if those names are the actual grand jurors or just people with the same name. Some addresses appear to be wrong.Unlike the federal system, when someone is indicted in Fulton County, the indictment includes the names of all the grand jurors who served on the 26-member panel that handed up the charges. However, the indictment, which is ...Florida teen participating in Florida Python Challenge nabs massive 15-foot python in Everglades

The colossal python, stretching longer than an SUV, was a sight to behold for Cronin and his crew. The daring python hunter shared his exhilarating experience. “We go over and there’s just a snake’s head sitting there the size of my head,” said Cronin, “And I shined the flashlight back through the woods to see the body, and couldn’t even see the end of it.”Despite the awe-inspiring size of the serpent, Cronin’s determination didn’t waver. “Then I’m like, of course, I wanna jum...New pilot program offers free menstrual products, education programs in Boston

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden aims to further tighten security and economic ties between Japan and South Korea, two nations that have struggled to stay on speaking terms, as he welcomes their leaders to the rustic Camp David presidential retreat Friday.Historically frosty relations between South Korea and Japan have rapidly thawed over the last year as they share concerns about China’s assertiveness in the Pacific and North Korea’s persistent nuclear threats. Biden is now looking to use the summit in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains to urge South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to turn the page on their countries’ difficult shared history. The Japan-South Korea relationship is a delicate one because of differing views of World War II history and Japan’s colonial rule over the Korean Peninsula. Past efforts to tighten security cooperation between Seoul and Tokyo have progressed with fits and starts. But the White House is hopin...Latest news
