STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn guard Jordan Hawkins announced Friday that he will leave college and enter the NBA draft.The 6-foot-5 sophomore from Gaithersburg, Maryland averaged 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists this past season, helping lead the Huskies to the program’s fifth NCAA Tournament title. Hawkins also averaged 16.3 points in the Huskies’ six games in the NCAA Tournament and shot 50% from 3-point range (21 of 42). He scored 16 points in the Huskies win over San Diego State in the title game on Monday night. Hawkins made the announcement Friday while appearing with coach Dan Hurley on ESPN’s NBA Today show.Hawkins is known for his ability to come off a screen and quickly release a 3-point attempt. He shot 38.8% from beyond the arc this season. DENVER (KDVR) — Fire crews worked to put out two separate brush fires that sparked Friday afternoon near Interstate 70 and Peña Boulevard.The two "slow-moving" fires were reported around 2 p.m., according to tweets from Aurora Fire Rescue. Both Denver and Aurora fire crews responded. Denver International Airport pinpointed a fire location near 40th Avenue. (KDVR) — Week one of the Letecia Stauch trial wrapped up Friday with evidence and expert testimony about 11-year-old Gannon Stauch’s body found 1,300 miles away under a bridge.Plastic covered evidence presented in the courtroom Friday included a large green suitcase. Defendant Letecia Stauch kept her head down and had hair over her face as the suitcase passed by her in the courtroom. One juvenile has died and another has been rushed to hospital after they were pulled from a lake in Northwest Miami-Dade. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the drowning at 1180 NW 99 St., Friday afternoon. 7Skyforce hovered over the scene where rescue crews surrounded the area to rescue the juveniles. According to MDFR, three divers were in the water searching for the children. One of the children was rescued first and transported to the hospital. After searching further, divers were able to find the second child, who was also transported to the hospital. Ultimately, one of the juveniles did not survive. A witness at the scene told 7News that one of the children had foliage or some sort of plant wrapped around their leg. 7News spoke to witnesses who saw the rescue attempt. “That lake has a lot of weeds, and they took out the kid, and then that’s when they took him to the hospital,” a witness said. “They are very upset, very upset,”...Latest news
