Tracking weekend cold front that may bring rain

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Another cold morning is in the forecast Wednesday under mostly clear skies. Rural areas and suburbs drop into the 30s with temperatures in Austin near 40 degrees.As winds turn to a southeasterly direction beginning Wednesday afternoon, a warming trend resumes and clouds increase each day. By Friday, high temperatures approach 80 degrees in some areas with overnight low temperatures only in the upper 50s.The next storm to impact our weather gives us only a glancing blow on Saturday. Democratic-Farmer Labor candidate Bianca Virnig won a three-way special election Thursday for a vacant state House seat in the south Twin Cities suburbs.Virnig, a member of the Rosemount-Apple Valley Eagan School Board, will represent Dakota County’s House District 52B in the upcoming legislative session. She received 58% of the vote, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.Mendota Heights Republican Cynthia Lonnquist got 41% of the vote and Eagan Libertarian Charles Kuchlenz received about 1%.Voters cast more than 6,600 ballots, according to initial results from the Secretary of State.With Virnig’s victory, the DFL will preserve its 70-64 majority in the state House of Representatives.House District 52B includes the south metro suburbs of Eagan and Mendota Heights. DUANESBURG, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police are advising commuters who use I-88 to find another route on Wednesday after a truck carrying hazardous materials crashed into a ravine. The roadway will be closed in both directions at 6 a.m. between Exit 24 in Duanesburg and Exit 25 in Rotterdam for continued hazmat cleanup. A box truck carrying compressed natural gas went off the roadway Tuesday morning and closed the interstate for most of the day. The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. A hazmat team as well as the Department of Environmental Conservation were on the scene. The sign on the door from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance said the business was seized due to nonpayment of taxes. COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An investigation is ongoing after a house fire in the town of Colonie. The fire happened shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday on the 100-block of Frederick Avenue. ST. JOHN, Mo. – What was supposed to be a relaxing weekend started out rough for people on Bobb Avenue in St. John. Court records say a stolen car crashed into two vehicles on the street. You can still see tire marks in a yard and pieces of the cars struck laying on the road.“A resident arrived on scene stating that the vehicle that was involved in the property damage had just been stolen and that it was her daughter’s vehicle,” St. John Police Chief Robert Connell said.Things took a turn while officers were investigating.“Great situational awareness. PRAIRIE DU PONT, Ill. – A caravan of tow trucks and emergency vehicles made its way from a funeral home in Dupo, Illinois, to the East Carondelet Community Center on Tuesday night. The procession showcased the pain felt over the tragic death of 57-year-old Wade Bivins, a volunteer firefighter, tow truck operator, and dedicated community servant.Prairie Du Pont Fire Chief Jerame Simmons paid tribute to Bivins, describing him as the type of person every community would want to call their own."Anything you ask Wade to do, there was never a no. It’s like, ‘When do you want it done? ST. LOUIS - Detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a terrifying home invasion in the Clifton Heights neighborhood.The victim asked to remain anonymous out of safety concerns but shared a video of four people racing out the front door of her home after breaking in through a window. The victim said the thieves stole Christmas presents from under the tree while she was asleep in her bedroom.The criminals also got away with her purse, which included her car keys.
