Wes Moore (D) traveled to Maryland’s biggest industrial development Friday to break ground on a new construction facility for the offshore wind energy industry and to sign three pieces of legislation designed to boost the state’s efforts to combat climate change. After touring the massive Tradepoint Atlantic development in Baltimore County, where the Patapsco River meets the Chesapeake Bay, Moore joined dozens of dignitaries to hail the potential economic and environmental benefits of offshore wind. Tradepoint Atlantic is the site of the long-shuttered Bethlehem Steel plant at Sparrow’s Point, and several political, business and labor leaders said wind energy development will be an integral part of the renaissance of the massive property — and the state’s economic f...

Jeb Burton wins Xfinity Series crash-fest at Talladega

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 06:35:00 GMT

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Jeb Burton won his second career Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway in a Saturday crash-fest that had two red-flag stoppages and took more than three hours to complete. Burton won in double overtime driving for Jordan Anderson Racing, which scored its first career victory when Burton crossed the finish line. Fittingly for this race, multiple cars crashed behind Burton as he took the checkered flag. And, Burton was unable to do a victory burnout because he broke the transmission on his Chevrolet. Burton, son of Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton, scored his only other Xfinity victory in 2021 at this same track. His owner, Jordan Anderson, is also a driver and was airlifted out of Talladega last October following a fiery crash in the Truck Series. The race had 12 cautions and only 19 of the 38 entries finished on the lead lap. Daniel Hemric’s race ended in the first overtime when he was crashed as the leader trying to throw a block and his car ende...

Orioles win 5th straight, 5-1 win over Tigers, as Kyle Gibson continues streak of strong starts

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 06:35:00 GMT

Kyle Gibson on Saturday wasn’t the pitcher the Orioles paid $10 million for this offseason. He was much more than that.Gibson, an 11-year veteran with a reputation as a pitch-to-contact innings-eater, struck out 11 batters to tie his career high in the Orioles’ 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. The 35-year-old right-hander allowed just two hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings to continue Baltimore’s streak of stupendous outings from its starters. The start is easily Gibson’s best as an Oriole. The only run he allowed was a home run with one out in the seventh. His 6 1/3 innings before the solo homer extended the scoreless streak by Orioles starters to 30, and the quality start was the club’s fourth straight, joining Dean Kremer, Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells. The Orioles have allowed just two runs in their previous four games. The win is the Orioles’ fifth straight and ninth in their past 11 games. Ramón Urías led Baltimore (13-7) offensively wi...

All eyes were on the mound Saturday with aces Dylan Cease starting for the Chicago White Sox and Shane McClanahan for the Tampa Bay Rays.Cease, the 2022 American League Cy Young runner-up, battled into the fifth inning before exiting because of a high pitch count.McClanahan, who was sixth in last year’s AL Cy Young voting, displayed a changeup that kept Sox batters off-balance throughout his six innings.Neither factored in the decision, and for the second straight game the Rays walked off the Sox.This time Randy Arozarena did in the Sox, driving in pinch runner Vidal Bruján with a single to right to give the Rays a 4-3 victory in 10 innings in front of 22,333 at Tropicana Field.“We are playing hard, we are competing, we had a chance to win both games (in the series),” Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. “We’ve got a good team. I’m not going to question anything here. We prepare. We’ve just got to keep doing what we are doing. That’s it...
