Skimboard riders battling Laguna Beach officials over Aliso Beach sand berm

A battle is brewing between the city of Laguna Beach, which recently took control of Aliso Beach from the county, and skimboard riders who claim the officials are unfairly considering a new law that would cut into some of their fun. One of the biggest attractions at Aliso Beach for the wave riders is a naturally occurring sand berm that separates Aliso Creek from the ocean. When it’s breached under the right conditions, it’s an excellent wave for skimboarding. “It does break naturally more often than not,” Greg Viviani told KTLA. “Also, the wave riders like to break it as well because it does create a standing wave and it creates sandbar out front, which creates better waves to ride as well.” However, the city is looking at a new ordinance that would ban skimboard riders and others from digging out the berm over concerns about polluted water from upstream going into the ocean too often. Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen spoke to KTLA last month about the issue. “Firs...Trayce Jackson-Davis makes Summer League debut, but Warriors drop fourth straight game

LAS VEGAS — Trayce Jackson-Davis had been waiting for this moment since draft night last month. After missing the first five Summer League games with a sore hamstring, Jackson-Davis finally made his summer debut Thursday afternoon in the Warriors’ 118-101 loss to the Houston Rockets.Jackson-Davis, the No. 57 pick in this year’s draft, started at center in place of Santa Cruz big man Jayce Johnson. He admitted to having some jitters early on, which might explain a failed dunk and layup attempts as well as two early turnovers. But a two-hand slam off a pick-and-roll with Brandin Podziemski at the 6:44 mark of the first quarter helped him settle in.“You know I like tearing the rim down,” Jackson-Davis said after the Warriors dropped their fourth straight game in Las Vegas. “So getting that as a dunk was a pretty cool experience.”Jackson-Davis, 23, appeared more comfortable as the game went on. He scored six points in the first half before finishi...Santa Clara: Pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by driver

(KRON) -- Earlier this year, KRON4 reported on a disturbing TikTok trend in which thieves posted videos of themselves stealing Kias and Hyundais. California Attorney General Rob Bonta called for recalls to fix the problem, but it seems to be getting worse. In the last week, we’ve seen multiple Instagram posts of people falling victim in the Bay Area. Their car is stolen, found dumped in a parking lot weeks later, stripped and totaled. (KRON) -- The City of Oakland’s COVID-19 pandemic-related eviction moratorium will officially sunset on Saturday. If a tenant was unable to pay rent between March 9, 2020, and July 14, 2023 because they experienced a significant decrease in income or increase in expenses as a result of the pandemic, the tenant can never be evicted by property owners over that unpaid rent, according to city officials. "That doesn’t change with this policy sunset," city officials wrote. Starting on July 15, tenants can be evicted for non-payment of rent that became due on or after that date, even if they are still financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.Property owners can still take tenants to court over any unpaid rent accrued between March 9, 2020, and July 14, 2023. However, they cannot evict tenants who were unable to pay because of financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.Currently, if a tenant lives in a rent-controlled unit, the property owner cannot raise the rent over the an...Dentista acusado de envenenar a su esposa habría buscado en internet cómo esconder el crimen

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — A tentative deal was reached Thursday between employers and workers in a strike that has halted shipments in and out of ports in Canada’s west coast region of British Columbia for nearly two weeks.A statement from the BC Maritime Employers Association said it had reached a tentative agreement with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. The strike by 7,400 members of the union began July 1 and shut down more than 30 west coast ports, including Canada’s largest, the Port of Vancouver. The tentative deal comes after federal Labor Minister Seamus O’Regan ordered a mediator to issue terms of a possible settlement earlier this week, saying the gap in the deadlocked talks was “not sufficient to justify a continued work stoppage.”In a tweet responding to the tentative deal, O’Regan says “the strike is over,” and the “parties are finalizing details for the resumption of work at the ports.”The four-year deal is subject to ratification by both ...Latest news
