A number of A-list stars have begun taking to social media to share their “heartbreak” and horror over last weekend’s attack by Hamas terrorists on Israeli communities and the escalating war in and around Gaza. But these stars seem to be trying to avoid mistakes made by Kylie Jenner, Justin Bieber and other celebrities, who posted poorly considered messages earlier in the week that were held up as examples for why the public often doesn’t want to hear from influencers and entertainers in the midst of global crisis.Indeed, it’s likely that Jennifer Garner, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Kerry Washington, among others, consulted with their teams about what they should say on social media — or if they should say anything at all. These stars all are seen as role models in American popular culture, and their reputations depend on them being seen as sensible, decent, likable. For the most part, they also tend to steer clear of controversy.LOS ANGE...Warriors notebook: Why Brandin Podziemski has Steph Curry’s attention in practices

LOS ANGELES — Steph Curry is one of a handful of Warriors to highlight Brandin Podziemski as a standout so far in training camp.“BP really has been showing how much he understands the game of basketball at a young age and how confident he is in himself and that shows every time he steps on the floor,” Curry said at Warriors shootaround in Los Angeles on Friday. “That’s a nice surprise.”Curry praised the 20-year-old Podziemski for his ability to stick out among a roster full of superstars.“You expect Klay (Thompson) to ball, you expect (Kevon Looney) to do what he does, you expect (Andrew Wiggins) to come back and assert his dominance on both sides of the floor,” he said. “All the guys we know, you don’t take it for granted, but you expect them to do what they do. I’ll add myself to that.”A poor scoring and shooting performance in summer league this July prompted questions about Podziemski’s role with the w...Scherzer says he’s ready to go after bullpen session. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Max Scherzer declared himself “ready to go” after throwing another bullpen session and doing fielding drills Friday, two days before the Texas Rangers open the AL Championship Series. The Rangers haven’t said whether the three-time Cy Young Award winner will be on their ALCS roster, and that decision doesn’t have to be revealed until Sunday before Game 1 at Houston. Scherzer hasn’t pitched in a game since Sept. 12 because of a muscle strain in his shoulder. “I feel good. Recovered, checked all of the boxes I possibly can,” Scherzer said during a workout at Globe Life Field before the team traveled to Houston. “So I’m ready to go.”Texas manager Bruce Bochy, who didn’t speak with reporters on Friday, and pitching coach Mike Maddux have expressed being encouraged by the progress of Scherzer, who was a trade-deadline acquisition from the New York Mets.
