By Alanna Durkin Richer | Associated PressDonald Trump for years has promoted baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him. In truth, Trump was the one who tried to steal the election, federal prosecutors said Tuesday in a sprawling indictment that paints the former president as desperate to cling to power. The Justice Department indictment accuses Trump of conspiring with allies and concocting various schemes in a brazen attempt to overturn his election loss to President Joe Biden as his legal challenges floundered in court. The charges brought by special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecution team are built around the words of Trump’s advisers, White House lawyers and others in his inner circle who repeatedly told him there was no fraud. It’s the third time this year the early front-runner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary has been charged in a criminal case. Mayor Sheng Thao recommended funding for six police academies in her first budget. This clearly shows that she is very concerned.Second, the city of Oakland offers new police recruits one of the highest signing bonuses in the state, but the department still has a hard time finding qualified applicants. San Francisco is also having recruitment issues. Finally, the Anti-Police Terror Project provides a check to the sometimes unchecked power and authority of rogue police in Oakland. Federal monitors are in place for a good reason. This is a complex issue with no easy solutions.Malik WashingtonDublinEnvironmental costof nukes is too highRe: “New focus for Berkel...Single-family residence sells in San Jose for $1.6 million

(BCN) -- Reddish-brown algae harmful to fish and other marine life has appeared along the shores of Emeryville, Berkeley and Albany, environmental group San Francisco Baykeeper confirmed Monday. Last year, a harmful algae bloom of the same kind caused a red tide spreading across San Francisco Bay, resulting in an unprecedented fish kill event. Baykeeper scientists say that the algae bloom is likely fueled by elevated levels of nitrogen and phosphorus - substances released into the sea by the region's 37 wastewater treatment plants. Woman who fired shots on Bay Bridge while naked charged by SF DA "It's alarming to see an algae outbreak of this size in the Bay for the second year in a row," said Baykeeper science director Jon Rosenfield. "While it's too early to tell how this harmful algae bloom will proceed, there's not much that we can do to stop it once it has started. Prevention is the only cure." BROWNING, Mont. (AP) — A widespread Medicaid scam that left an unknown number of Native Americans homeless in metro Phoenix is being declared a public health state of emergency by the Blackfeet Nation of Montana after the Navajo Nation took similar action in June. The scam left an unknown number of Native Americans without shelter in the greater Phoenix area after Arizona’s Medicaid program suspended scores of programs suspected of fraud. The declarations allow the tribes to get staffing and other resources to help people hurt by the scam. Those affected are from numerous tribes around the West, including the Blackfeet Nation. They were lured to the Phoenix area with promises of addiction treatment that was never delivered, then pushed into the streets when the facilities abruptly closed. The emergency declaration was drawn up last month on behalf of the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council, the tribe’s governing body. Because several council members were traveling, it took...Brewers acquire Chafin from the Diamondbacks and Pham from the Mets at trade deadline
