U.S. Coast Guard suspends search for person off Southern California Coast The U.S. Coast Guard was searching for a person who fell overboard from a bulk carrier ship 14 miles off the coast of Point Conception before the search was suspended Tuesday evening.At approximately 5 a.m., Los Angeles Coast Guard personnel received a report of a crewmember who had fallen overboard from the African Cardinal, according to a U.S. Coast Guard news release. Authorities launched a helicopter rescue and small boat crew to begin the search. After about 15 hours, the search was eventually called off, the Associated Press reported. “The decision to suspend an active search is never easy and is only made after exhaustive efforts to find the missing person,” Chief Warrant Officer John Rose, the search coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach, told AP. Police said the collision also involved a Tesla, a Honda HR-V, and a Honda Accord.As a result, one of the vehicles caught on fire. However, officials were unsure as to which vehicle was consumed by flames.Following the crash, authorities pronounced the driver of the Tacoma, 50-year-old Jose A. Zarate, dead at the scene. Doctor says Davis stabbings suspect not mentally competent to stand trial (KTXL) — A court-appointed doctor has determined that the suspect in three stabbings in Davis is not mentally competent to stand trial, but a jury will determine if the criminal case proceeds, a judge ruled Tuesday morning. Carlos Reales Dominguez, 21, is accused of three attacks over April and May that killed two men and injured one woman. After his arrest, the judge suspended criminal proceedings against him in order for a medical evaluation to take place. After Tuesday's hearing, the judge ordered a jury trial in July that will determine Dominguez's competency. Suspect arrested in Pier 39 shooting identified If he is found competent, the criminal case against him will move forward. Reales Dominguez faces two charges of murder and one count of attempted murder, with a special circumstance for committing multiple murders. He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
