Two men wounded in East Oakland shoot-out, police say

OAKLAND — A shoot-out early Sunday in East Oakland left a 19-year-old man in critical condition and another man wounded, police said.The shooting was reported about 12:59 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of 91st Avenue.Police said a party was being held at a home in the area and that dozens of people were in attendance.A dispute happened on the street outside the party and numerous people began exchanging gunfire, police said. What the dispute was about is under investigation.The 19-year-old Richmond man and a 19-year-old El Sobrante man were wounded. New park namedThe Milpitas City Council unanimously approved naming a 4-acre park after a group of Filipino farmworkers who led a strike for better wages and working conditions.Delano Manongs Park is directly north of the newly constructed Mabel Mattos Elementary School along McCandless Drive in the Milpitas Metro Specific Plan area. The park is named after the 1,500 Filipino-American agricultural workers, or “manongs,” who participated in the Delano Grape Strike of 1965. Manong is an Ilocano term that means older brother or uncle.The labor strike set the stage for the boycott that would lead Cesar Chavez and thousands of farmworker families to create the United Farm Workers.The park includes joint use areas for the city and the nearby elementary school, a sports field, picnic areas, all-inclusive play structures, a dog park, walking trails and restrooms. OAKLAND — A 13-year-old girl and her 44-year-old mother were killed and a 12-year-old girl was wounded in a shooting Saturday night at an East Oakland apartment, and the woman’s boyfriend was arrested as the suspect, authorities said.Two other children — an infant and a 7-year-old girl — and another adult were not injured, authorities said.The names of the two killed and the 46-year-old suspect have not yet been released by police.The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. Saturday in an apartment in the 9500 block of Birch Street.Authorities said the 44-year-old woman and the suspect had been in a relationship for more than a year. Authorities said they have a 1-year-old daughter together.Police said some kind of dispute happened between the 44-year-old woman and the suspect in a bedroom which led to her being fatally shot. Singing her praisesSaratoga High School sophomore Diya Iyer has had a productive year as a vocalist. She was selected for the American Choral Director’s Association National Honor Choir, which performed in Cincinnati in February. Iyer was one of 30 sopranos chosen for the choir from an overall pool of more than 4,000 applicants.She also performed at Carnegie Hall in March and was a finalist in the American Protégé International Vocal Competition, where she sang at the Winner’s Recital. DALY CITY, Calif. (KRON) – A traffic stop led to the discovery of thousands of dollars worth of stolen cosmetics from Walgreens on Wednesday, according to the Daly City Police Department. Hit-and-run collision leaves one with life-threatening injuries Shortly after 7:30 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop near Mission Street and Templeton Avenue. The driver was a 24-year-old male of San Francisco who had two warrants for his arrest, police said.
