Police are warning Cal State Fullerton students about a new scam targeting parents’ bank accounts on the basis of a fake arrest.The scam involves calling parents in the middle of the night and telling them their child has been arrested. The scammer typically claims the child was pulled over during a traffic stop and drugs were found inside their vehicle.The caller then asks the parent to wire bail money to release their child from custody.“It’s always a detective or somebody from Fullerton PD,” said Cal State Fullerton Police Captain Scot Wiley. “That’s who they’re identifying as and they’re saying if you want to have this person moved from Fullerton PD, bailed out and taken back to Cal State Fullerton, you need to give them a certain amount of money.”Police said they’ve received multiple reports of a similar scam tactic over the last two weeks. FREMONT – Police are investigating a traffic collision that left a woman dead in mid-May.The solo-vehicle crash was reported May 12 around 4:30 p.m. at Kato Road and Auburn Street, the Fremont Police Department said in a statement Wednesday. The driver, identified only as a 57-year-old woman, was taken to an area trauma center.Several days later, the Alameda County Coroner’s Office notified police that the woman had died.Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash. (KRON) -- A 37-year-old man was found dead in the driver's seat of a vehicle that had crashed near a veterans building on Tuesday night, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. Santa Rosa mom arrested after toddler's fentanyl overdose Officers arrived at the Santa Rosa Veterans building on Maple Avenue around 6:45 a.m. for a vehicle collision. A red Toyota Tundra appeared to be crashed into the building's fence, and a man was found dead inside. He was later identified as Mario Garcia-Villavicencio of Rohnert Park. Police determined that around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, the Tundra was heading north on Brookwood Avenue when it suddenly veered west, off the road, through a parking lot and into the fence. (KRON) -- Crews were able to safely extinguish a car fire on Highway 17 in Campbell, the Santa Clara County Fire Department announced Wednesday on Facebook. The car's two occupants were not injured in the fire, including a dog that was inside the vehicle. The fire happened around 10:44 a.m. Monday on northbound Highway 17 near E. Hamilton Avenue.
