It will disrupt San Jose businesses and will probably cost more than the anticipated increase in funding required. What will it do? It won’t go to the airport. Instead, the city is planning on autonomous vehicles transporting people from Diridon to the Airport. Why not have a bus bridge from Diridon to Berryessa with a stop at the airport and the other proposed stops along the way?The city has failed to inform us as to what benefits will be gained by the extension except in vague terms. It will be good for workers and put people to work, but labor shortages abound.Kathleen CannuliSan JoseGlobetrotting Newsomshould ...New North Beach jazz club Keys Bistro looking for solid footing

Last November, news that a bona fide jazz club was opening in North Beach contributed to surging optimism around San Francisco’s recovery from the lingering pandemic malaise.Located partly in a Broadway building that was once home to the storied 1950s nightclub El Matador, Keys Jazz Bistro celebrates its first anniversary throughout the month with a talent-laden program of Bay Area masters. But rather than marking the city’s resurgence, the milestone highlights a moment when San Francisco’s rebound seems to have caromed off the rails.By just about any measure, Keys is doing everything right. Owned and run by Australian-born pianist and organist Simon Rowe, the club is a throwback to North Beach nightlife’s glory days, with a welcoming staff, enticing menu, and enviable acoustics.Committed to building the local scene, Rowe has focused on creating a homebase for leading Bay Area artists. There have been nights when the club is packed, but the underwhelming summer season has continued ...Authorities ID teens killed in Bay Point shooting, fatal crash on Cummings Skyway after pursuit

It all began when Walnut Creek’s Keenan Moran started performing in musicals choreographed by his mother, Renee DeWeese Moran, until he reached the second grade … that’s when he knew he wanted to be a performer. Now in the sixth grade at Lafayette’s St. Perpetua School, Keenan was recently rehearsing in New York City, where he auditioned for and landed the role of Friedrich Von Trapp in the new Broadway global tour in China of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1959 classic “The Sound of Music” (broadwayasia.com/tsom-new). Not only was he excited to get the call to pack his suitcase, his friends were excited too.“My friends think it’s cool, they had a lot of questions. They have been really supportive, but they’re sad that I won’t see them for six months,” said Keenan. “I’m sad to miss a really fun camp that all sixth-graders do at St. Perpetua every year and my school play, but I think this experience was too special to pass up, and I’ll learn and experience so much traveli...Section of Oakland's MacArthur Blvd renamed 'Tupac Shakur Way'

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The Army reservist who fatally shot 18 people at two locations in Lewiston before disappearing into the night was alive and possibly on the run during a good portion of the huge search that led to community-wide shelter-in-place orders, according to the Maine medical examiner’s office.Robert Card died from a self-inflicted gunshot that “likely” happened eight to 12 hours before the discovery of his body, based on a time-of-death analysis. The second of two workers trapped under a coal mine preparation plant that collapsed earlier this week in eastern Kentucky has died, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Friday. “This is a heartbreaking situation,” the Democratic governor wrote on social media, calling for prayers for the men’s loved ones. The two men — identified as Billy Ray Daniels and Alvin Nees — were trapped under rubble at the Martin Mine Prep Plant in Martin County after an 11-story abandoned building crashed down around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The men were on the scene completing work to prepare for its demolition. Daniels was originally located alive, but officials announced Wednesday that he died during rescue efforts.
