A Chicago man who stole a prized photograph from then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office during the U.S. Capitol riot was sentenced on Friday to more than four years in prison for his role in the mob’s attack on the building.Kevin James Lyons, 40, took a wallet from a Pelosi staffer’s coat and a framed photograph of Pelosi with the late Congressman John Lewis, a civil rights movement icon who died in July 2020. Lyons also mockingly called out Pelosi’s name during the riot on Jan. 6, 2021.“In the context of the actions of the riotous mob, some of whom were baying for blood, Lyons’ invocation of the Speaker’s name could only be intended and understood as a threat of violence,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing.Investigators haven’t recovered the photograph of Pelosi with Lewis, which was taken during a 2019 visit to Africa, her last trip abroad with the Georgia Democrat before his death. The framed photo, taken from a mantle in the California Democrat’...The Rev. Jesse Jackson is stepping down as head of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the civil rights organization he founded

Alex Osiadacz | (TNS) Mayo Clinic News NetworkWhere you live, what you eat and how much you drink may tell health care professionals more about your risk of developing kidney stones than you think.Dr. Ivan Porter II, a Mayo Clinic nephrologist, describes intense weather areas, such as the South and Southwest, as the kidney stone belt. This is where research shows kidney stones are more prevalent.Dehydration in these hot climates, combined with certain diets, are increasing risks that can result in the pain of kidney stones. Additionally, Mayo Clinic researchers concluded that diets with daily intake of calcium and potassium may help prevent first-time or recurrent kidney stones. What goes into the body makes its way into the bloodstream, and the job of the kidneys is to filter blood.“They filter out electrolytes and minerals, and sometimes those minerals can actually deposit in areas within the kidney in the urinary tract,” says Dr. Porter. Those deposits are known as kidn...Repeater tax looms large as Nets look to finish building out roster for new season

If the Nets are going to add a player to this roster as-is, that deal is probably going to come in at less than $10 million in annual salary.Welcome to the 2023 NBA offseason, where the Nets find themselves as repeat tax offenders after three seasons chasing championships with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the payroll. And with a projected $155.4 million in guaranteed salaries for the 2023-24 season, the Nets don’t have much wiggle room before incurring stiff luxury tax penalties. The Nets were tax payers in 2020, 2021 and 2022, triggering the repeater tax for teams whose payroll skyrocketed above the tax threshold in three of the last four seasons.Traditionally, the luxury tax penalizes teams $1.50 for every dollar spent over the tax line, with that tax amount increasing every $5 million spent over the tax line.As repeat tax offenders, however, the Nets would be paying $2.50 on the dollar for any transaction that takes them up to $5 million over the tax threshold, with the t...Why LGBTQ+ adults should pay attention to heart health
