Paddlers racing to the finishing line at UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. /Murray Job/CGTNEurope's biggest dragon boat race has paddled its way back to Manchester. This year's UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival (17-18 June) involved around 40 amateur teams and a dozen professional teams taking part in the two-day event, writes Wang Qiwei in Manchester, UK.This fun-filled race saw teams of paddlers and drummers racing along the waters of Salford Quays – in the adjoining city of Salford – to the beat of the drum. It requires teamwork and staying in sync to win the race, but for the amateur paddlers – many of them first-timers – the trophy may not be the main aim.A poem to mark the Dragon Boat FestivalHow is the Dragon Boat Festival celebrated around the world?Ganzhou residents gear up for dragon boat racing"It's the first time for all of us on the boat to participate in the race. The blaze erupted in the 60 x 80 metal-clad, commercial building around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.More than 80 firefighters went into a defensive operation but extinguished the blaze in about 40 minutes. While conducting a search, firefighters located a man inside the building who was beyond medical help, Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesperson Margaret Stewart stated in a news alert. One person was found dead in a building fire in South Los Angeles on June 20, 2023. (OnScene.TV)At one point crews were concerned about the building collapsing. “We knew there were some homeless people living there because we’ve been here before … So, we’re always going to be thinking of search right away but we wouldn’t advance because of the type of building … because of the amount of fire, and it is not a safe building to go in,” said LAFD Capt. All while having a touch of bass music as undertones leading the energy through the beautiful soundscapes that I have created.”The man also known as Jake Osher says that electronic music is in a good state right now.“There are so many genres and styles thriving and I think creativity is very high in dance music,” he says. “With that being said it is a very saturated market so standing out is harder than ever. Whether the Warriors stand pat with the No. 19 pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft or trade it remains an open question. Whichever path they take, expect their guiding light to be acquiring players they think can play next to Steph Curry and keep open their title contention window. That window will be constricted under the new collective bargaining agreement, which takes effect July 1 and keeps the Warriors from signing players on the open market to anything more than a league-minimum deal. That accentuates the importance of the draft: For the Warriors, a good draft gives them back some team-building control.Rumors swirled that the Warriors might put former lottery pick Jonathan Kuminga on the trade block in order to move up in the draft order. Such a trade would be a bold move for new general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. in his first few days at the helm.If the Warriors don’t move up the board, perhaps they’ll see value in trading down. A move down would save them a little m...The world’s 50 best restaurants for 2023 revealed

By the time I talked to Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, he was clearly frustrated. “This is ridiculous,” he said. “These guys write reports and they protest. But we need to build. You can’t be serious about climate and the environment without reforming permitting and procurement in this state.”It hurts to get hammered by your friends. And that’s what’s happening to Newsom. More than 100 environmental groups — including the Sierra Club of California and The Environmental Defense Center — are joining together to fight a package Newsom designed to make it easier to build infrastructure in California. For Newsom, it’s a wounding break. “I licked envelopes for these nonprofits as a kid. My father was on the board of the Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund for more than a decade,” he told me. “This was my life. But this rigidity and ideological purity is really going to hurt progress. I did the climate bills last year, and these same groups were celebrating that. But that means nothin...Opinion: Delta tunnel is too risky to bend environmental rules

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plans to ease environmental rules and bypass the legislative process to get statewide infrastructure projects fast-tracked would pave the way for California ratepayers to fund a multi-billion-dollar environmentally disastrous and divisive Delta tunnel. The Delta Counties Coalition (DCC), representing the five counties that comprise millions of residents who live in and around the California Delta, strongly oppose the administration’s inclusion of the Delta Conveyance Project (Delta tunnel) in its infrastructure package and hastily considering it in the opaque state budget process.Dating back to 2009, the Legislature and administration have consistently avoided legislative provisions that facilitate highly controversial and expensive isolated new conveyance in the Delta. This was done with purpose. Changing laws for the explicit benefit of this highly controversial project would pick “winners and losers” between those living within and near the Delta (the losers) a...UC Davis stabbings suspect isn’t competent to stand trial, psychologist tells court – but the matter isn’t settled

That downtown San Francisco has been struggling since the pandemic is no secret. To borrow a quote from Mark Twain, though, reports of San Francisco’s death may be “greatly exaggerated.” In fact, there are many neighborhoods that are thriving in the City by the Bay. Below are four of my favorites.North Beach: On a recent Saturday afternoon, soccer fans were spilling out of several local bars; sidewalk cafés were doing brisk business and beloved sites like Coit Tower were teaming with tourists.
