Ethiopia: Aid group says 2 workers killed amid violence

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — Two aid workers with Catholic Relief Services were killed in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, the aid group said Monday, amid a wave of civil unrest linked to a government decision to dissolve the security forces of the country’s 11 federal states and fold them into the federal forces. Chuol Tongyik, a security manager, and Amare Kindeya, a driver, were “shot and killed” while returning to the capital Adds Ababba on Sunday, CRS said in a statement. CRS said details of the killings are unknown. JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) -- At least one Denver Police Department officer was involved in a shooting on Monday, the department said. DPD tweeted about a shooting involving an officer at 11:55 a.m. and said there is a large police presence in the area of the 3800 block of W. Saratoga Avenue. The department said that is believed to be the area of the initial call. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office tweeted shortly after that there was a "large police presence" in the area of West Bowles Avenue and South Pierce Street which is near Robert F. Clement Park. DPD tweeted shortly after that the shooting took place at Clement Park. The sheriff's office said it is a possible officer-involved shooting and that the suspect was being treated at the scene. Jeffco said no officers were injured.Jeffco Sheriff's Office also said the schools in the area are secure and were not involved in the incident. This is a breaking story. MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) -- Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters was sentenced on Monday after she was found guilty of obstruction of government operations last month.A judge sentenced Peters to 120 hours of community service and four months of home detention with an ankle monitor. Peters was arrested in February last year during the execution of a search warrant in downtown Grand Junction.Peters was accused of using an iPad to record a hearing. A search warrant was issued for Peters’ iPad and she was detained while at a coffee shop in Grand Junction. The Miami-Dade Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area of Northwest 51st Street and 30th Avenue, Monday morning. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from a visible gunshot wound. A perimeter has been established after shots were fired at a South Florida neighborhood. Hallandale Beach Police arrived to the scene in the area of 304 NW 5th Terrace, Monday afternoon. According to officials, one person was shot on their side and was transported to Aventura Medical Center by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.
